Our Ghost

We have a ghost visiting our house each night in October. She is helping us count down the days until Halloween. Not only is she a friendly ghost, but she loves to make children happy by leaving them treats. The kids decided to name her Stella. The original name was to be Casper, but I insisted that this ghost is a girl. Last year some of my friends had a friendly ghost visiting their home to leave treats each night and I loved the idea and decided to start this tradition at our house as well. Thank goodness for creative friends!

Stella will be leaving her treats in the kid's Halloween pumpkins every night until Halloween. Tonight they carefully placed their pumpkins on top of their dressers, wondering what she would bring them once they were asleep. Their excitement was tangible and made me feel as happy about Stella's ghostly visits as they were feeling. Carston and Jackson insisted that they leave their door open to make it easier for her to get into their room. They were concerned that the squeak of their door opening would awaken them and cause her to vanish without leaving her treat for the night. I assured them that she could open their door without waking them up.

After leaving her treats, Stella goes to our Halloween countdown calendar and removes the piece of candy in the pocket for that day, our gift to her for her visits. She gets one candy each night and on Halloween we'll leave her a special treat for working so hard all month. This simple solution to our candy countdown will help us avoid any fights that might have occurred over the one piece of candy available each day and the kids can look at how much candy is left to see how much longer it will be until Halloween. Besides, Stella might just be a round pregnant ghost who loves treats.

Once the kids were fast asleep, Stella quietly slipped through each of their doors and left them some chocolate treats in their pumpkins. Stella KNOWS chocolate and left some of her favorites. The door to Carston's and Jackson's room squeaked open when she entered but they didn't move a muscle. They looked so peaceful in their sleep.

Even taking pictures didn't awaken them. I love the peace written in their features as they sleep. They are so innocent and pure, my little angels.

I can hardly wait for them to find their treats in the morning and come running to show me!
Yes, I even like them when they are awake! After all, they are some of my very best friends.

I love that idea, Shannon! I'll have to remember this for when Peyton is a little older and can grasp what's going on. That's so cute!

I'm thinking of doing a Christmas Elf in the future too- I've heard that you can buy a little elf doll or figurine and tell the kids that the elf is watching and reporting to Santa.

You can leave it out the month prior to Christmas and the fun part is to move it to different parts of the house when the kids aren't looking so they really think that the elf is on the move and sees and hears everything.

You can also tell them that they can whisper their wishes for Santa to the elf and I've heard it makes from some funny stories!

The ghost is so adorable though. Did you get your count down calender from Pottery Barn Kids? It is darling. One year I'll have one of those when I'm not paying off a million other things ;-)

Shannon Great work. I love that idea. You are so smart. Also, I love reading your blog. Even though we don't get to talk on the phone that much, I feel like I am a part of your life as I read it. I love seeing your kids and feeling like I am part of your lives even though I am hundreds of miles away.

Shannon, I LOVE this!!! Where did you get your "materials?" I've never seen them anywhere, so maybe you made them. I'd love to do that with my kids! I loved all the photos of the kids sleeping. So sweet.
