Tonight for our family home evening treat, we went over to Oasis and bought kiddy sno-balls to enjoy out on their picnic tables. I admit that our kids like the treats for family home evening better than anything else they might gain from the experience. That is okay, for now.Monday, April 21, 2008
Sno-balls
We have decided that sno-cones don't stand a snowball's chance in New Orleans, or in other words: sno-balls are a lot better. Carston says that it is really like eating snow. I am not sure if that recommends them to you or not, but we give them two thumbs up and four colorful tongues out.

For some reason, our kids don't like the sno-ball flavors that come in muted colors. Their favorites have to be flamboyant red or the color of blue you will never get out of your clothes again after a spill. I didn't mind the boys spilling on their T-shirts, but I was anxious about Princess Peyton's apple shirt. Mark told me that I should just take it off of her if I was worried. I honestly thought about it for a moment, but only for a moment. Then I did the next best thing, I fed her myself being very careful not to spill. The boys wouldn't have put up with that type of nonsense. This also insured I got a few bites for myself. ..mmmmm. Thanks, Peyton.
Benjamin got his first taste of a sno-ball tonight. He has decided to become a fan, like the rest of us. Sno-balls aren't as high on our list of New Orleans goodies as beignets, but nothing beats this icy cold treat on a hot and humid summer day! We're just getting an early start. Laissez les bons temps rouler!

Oh, what I wouldn't give for a good old Sals Snoball! One of my favorite things about living in NOLA was snoballs. I consumed them in mass quantities while we were there and loved every one!
Shannon, it was so great to hear from you! Thank you for your kind words. I have always thought so highly of you and Mark.
Time is racing past! It's exciting to hear that you are planning your 4th year! Good luck with all your decisions. It's a fun time. I really hope everything comes together just as you hope it will.
Tyler is taking a job in SLC at St. Marks Hospital so we'll be heading back to the Beehive State this summer. It is so hard to leave Virginia, but we are grateful for his job and for the new adventures that will await. Leaving Louisiana about killed me. :) It's easy to get attached to these places and I feel so glad our medical journey took us to two of the best cities in all the world.
Wow - this is so long. I should have just sent you an email! Please keep in touch, Shannon. Your family is beautiful - what an amazing mother you are! Your children are so blessed.
Shannon! I was just craving a snoball with some sweetened condensed milk slathered all over the top. We frequented Sal's just a walk away from our house in Metairie. Thanks for the memory jog!
Those are some colorful tongues!
I showed Jacob the picture of your kids and he still insists he hates slushees. Looks like fun and I am glad you are enjoying your camera.
Mmmmmm, yum!! We just had our first snoball of the season on Saturday night as well (and I didn't bring my camera, darn it!! I was bummed about that!) and it is the one thing that kind of makes summer surviveable here! I LOVE them, really really LOVE them. YUMMY!! Love the pictures. Now I want to go get one!
Do they taste as good as the snow/sugar mixtures that chef Carston was making over Christmas?
Mark, did you lose a bet? I noticed you had some strange growth on your face...!!! The kids look adorable of course. I can't wait to see them this summer!
